Facts About Termites

Infesting about one home in 50 nationwide, termites cause an estimated $1 billion worth of property damage each year.

Termites are more destructive than all fires, hurricanes and tornadoes combined.

Termites work steadily, quietly and invisibly twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.  Because worker termites are blind they never know when to quit.  Many infest a home for years before their presence is recognized.

Termites live long lives. Each termite colony has a queen, which may live from 15 to 30 years, laying hundreds of eggs each day.  Any number of colonies may infest a home.

 Ants

 You may find a lot of different kinds of ants in your home. Most times the problem is an outdoor ant coming inside. Once inside your home/business, ants can set up a colony in wall voids, behind baseboards, and even in hollow doors.

Habits: Ants usually come into buildings to find food and they do like human food. Some prefer fatty foods while others like sweets. When a foraging worker ant finds a source of food they go back to the colony, leaving a chemical trail for the other ants to follow. They act fast, too, so you will soon find a large number of ants swarming a food source.

 

In the United States, seven kinds of hard ticks and five kinds of soft ticks carry diseases, are a nuisance, or cause paralysis. In recent years, Lyme disease has become the most reported disease in the country.  Ticks are found wherever their hosts are found.  When not attached and feeding on their hosts, most hard ticks live on the ground in vegetation, such as grassy meadows, woods, brush, weeds, leaf litter, etc.  Most ticks will crawl to the tips of grasses, brush, leaves, or branches and wait.
